Museum of the World Ocean invites you to the opening of a new exhibition on July 18 at 16:00. You will not stay indifferent after visiting this exhibition: about 150 photographs by authors worldwide will show amazing and unbelievable beauty of the Arctic. The works took part in the Global Arctic Awards International Photo Competition.
The competition was organized by true fans; authors dealing with north and arctic photography from 40 countries worldwide took part in the competition during two years.

The purpose of the project is to show the variety of life in the North and the Arctic, their history, culture, way of life and centuries-old traditions of native peoples, richness of animal world and environment as well as to draw attention to problems of the Arctic. The contest’s motto is “Photographers of the World are for the Clean Arctic!” Forty-two medals and twelve ribbons of international associations were awarded to participants. Worldwide famous professional photographers from Russia, Ukraine, the USA, Austria, Sweden and Great Britain were on the jury.

Sergey Anisimov, Yamal photographer, and the Government of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug were the organizers of the photo competition.  National Geographic was a general partner.  RGO, UNESCO, WWF, IFAW and many other companies were partners.

Global Arctic Awards International Photo Competition got accreditation in the following international photographic societies:
PSA-  (The Photographic Society of America)
UPI - (United Photographers International)
FIAP-  (F?d?ration Internationale de l'Art Photographique')
RPS - (The Royal Photographic Society, Great Britain)

Works by professional photographers from 21 countries worldwide recognized as the best specialists are presented at the exhibition.

Sergey Anisimov is going to make a workshop and tell about photography in difficult conditions of the North.

Sea Colours

Museum of the World Ocean invites you to Maritime Koenigsberg-Kaliningrad exhibition hall. Here, on the first floor you can visit Sea Colours exhibition. It is an exhibition of works by teachers and students of art schools. They took part in the International Plein-air held by the OCEANiA project. Children and then adults spent several days on the Baltic Spit. They enjoyed nature and learnt how changeable the sea is as well as about our attitude to this amazing reserve. This event resulted in the works made in different techniques. There are 70 drawing and paintings at the exhibition. And all these pictures are devoted to the sea. Watercolours, oils, pastel and acrylic – all these paints became a tool for artists of different ages to depict great beauty of the Baltic Sea and its coast to a visitor. The exhibition is full of light and touching especially in the children’s drawings where you can see young artists’ naivety and sincerity. But the most important is that they managed to depict the main topic, the soul of the Baltic Sea.

Secrets of Starry Sky

Museum of the World Ocean invites you to How Far the Stars Are exhibition that acquaints you with the lamps of the night. The exposition is located on the most “starry” ship moored at the Historical Fleet Embankment, aboard the Kosmonavt Viktor Patsayev, a ship for space communication. Exhibits will tell you about Friedrich Bessel’s life and work. He was an outstanding German astronomer and had lived and worked in Koenigsberg for 40 years. It was here where he caused a sensation in astronomy by estimating the distance to a fixed star when he was a professor at the university and a director of Koenigsberg observatory.

Friedrich Wilhelm BESSEL (1784-1846) was born in Minden. This year is his 230th jubilee and the exhibition itself that was created in the astronomer’s motherland is a present from Germany to Kaliningrad. The exposition was created by students and teachers of Bessel Gymnasium in Minden. In 1984, they made their first exposition devoted to the 200th scientist’s jubilee. In 1996, new exhibits appeared and the old ones were restored. In 2004, a professional designer worked at the exhibition and then it was given to the Prussia Museum in Minden for storage. And from there the exhibition came to the Amber Land after several years. It gives a perfect opportunity to see astronomical miracles to all the visitors of Museum of the World Ocean.

 Museum of the World Ocean invites you to enjoy over 30 photographs of the Baltic shoreline. Julia Alekseyeva, author of the exhibition, wanted to show an amazing art of nature, interesting geological slices and permanent changeability of the landscape – the most important things in her opinion.
